ReplyDeletehow to study for mrcpch
DeleteAs a foreign graduate how many months before should i apply for the exam? And what are the requirements for part 1?
ReplyDeleteAnd if i do essentials and basic medical books with online questions..is it enough?
At-least 6 months is required. Essential, basic medical books and online questions are enough.
ReplyDeleteHi doctor,
ReplyDeleteTrust this email finds you well.
Firstly I would like to express my gratitude for sharing such great information in the blog in a very structured way. It was my inspiration to take the MRCPCh path.
I am Dr. Shriya an Indian medical graduate with two years experience. I am currently living in Dubai. I am planning to appear for part 1 in February, which is 4 months from now.
I would like to get some guidance from you if you don't mind.
1) Is this time frame of 4 months enough with a GP job?
2)Pastest questions or ERN first? I have read in your blog to begin with questions and read accordingly, which I feel is better because once I started I realised there is a huge bulk to read.
3) Should I take a course for this?
4) Is taking PLAB before MRCP helpful as suggested in many forums? (I have done usmle step2ck before)
5) Should I take part1a and b together or seperately?
I am so sorry for bombarding you with too many questions, but help me this time please. I know very well that you are the best person to seek guidance from. Your kind help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Shriya
Hi Shriya
DeleteI will answer your question one by one.
4 month is enough for part 1 a if you have no peds experience.
Pastest questions then relevent theory is the best way. You can take 123 doc and onexamination later.
No need to take any course or plab before mrcpch.
I think if you do not have peds experience then go for part 1 alone first.
Thanks
Hi doctor
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your swift response.
Much appreciated.
Need little more clarification about the last part of your reply . Did u mean i can go for Part 1 A alone or Part 1 both papers together?
Thanks
I mean to say part 1 a alone. Part 1 b is little tricky and needs more time to study if you do not have prior peds experience.
DeleteOk ..Thanks again, thanks a lot..may i know where you are currently?

ReplyDeleteHi. I'm currently working as neonatal ICU resident and this year is my 3rd year. Is it advisable in 4 months time to take both the FOP and TAS at the same time on June 2018?
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI am a fresh medical graduate from Bangladesh. I have no ped experience. Going through question, I am finding there is lack of basic knowledge. Should I go through Essential Revision Notes? But its little bit concise? Is there any alternative short text?
Thank you
Hi Sabbir
DeleteIllustrated text book of pediatrics Tom Lissauer
You can find this book on my website ---recoomeded books
Hi. this is the best website for beginners like me in mrcpch. i have about 8yrs of pediatric experience and i was planning to give part 2 in may2018...i am reading pastest plus ERN. Is that sufficient? did u solve all questions of pastest and how many revisions could u manage? also can i attempt fop/tas in june 2018 with 1month study? basic med sciences, ern n pastest...will that be sufficient? Sorry for many questions. Thanks in advance.
ReplyDeleteHi
DeleteI suggest you to solve sample paper on rcpch site so that you will come to know what to read and to what not. Pastest website is good. I do not think for part 2 ERN is useful. Please read my recommended websites and books.
Regarding part 1a and 1b one month is less. Please read the sample papers and decide. The best thing you have is 8 years of paeds experience but it is useful only when you have been using UK guidelines.
Best Wishes
hi

There is no need to give english test before MRCPCH.
ReplyDeleteWotking for 1 yr in paeds is sufficient to appear in mrcpch part 1. Please send an email to rcpch for further clarification.
Hi, I’m planning to take the MRCPCH theory exam this Oct- but I’m still unsure if I should take the FOP with TAS in the same setting or TAS alone first. Which would u recommend?
ReplyDeleteI’m currently a house officer and will be a medical officer soon. I would have at least 5 months to prepare for the TAS, which I read is apparently harder than FOP.

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I would like to thankyou for this great platform.
I have done my MBBS and have no such experience in paeds. I plan to appear for "DCH - UK" but am a bit confused with few things for which if you could guide me so that would be a great favour.
At moment i am reading following books for FOP:
1 - Pastest AKP question bank
2 - Essential revision notes Mark beattie.
1-Do I need any other book?
2-Is there a separate PASTEST book for FOP ?
3- If yes then can I download that book somewhere.. any link?
Also I think that if you can make a WhatsApp group for doctors where they can share their experiences and notes will also be a good help to many of us.
Kind Regards
hi should I give FOP and TAS together ? i have pediatric experience and have 5 months for preparation ? and please mention separately which books are for FOP and which for TAS ?
ReplyDeleteHi ,thanks for the great blog
ReplyDeleteIs 3 months period enough to prepare for FOP exam with an average af 4 hours daily ? I have no experience in pediatrics
Hi
ReplyDeleteSmart study is required. No need to read big books. Do MCQs and selective reading.
Hi Dr, Thank you for this platform. I would like to seek for advices and opinion. I am currently a fresh grad from medical degree with no prior working experience. I was having a dilemma whether or not to proceed with the MRCPCH part 1 exam. I would like to get Dr's opinion on this. Should I do the exam now? If yes, do I do both FOP and TAS together or separately. Thank you so much.
