MRCPCH EXAM PREPARATION

 I am a past candidate of MRCPCH Exam and passed MRCPCH written exam in first attempt with very good marks. I want to share my experience. I will explain to you about the MRCPCH exam and how to prepare for it. At present I am giving you information about MRCPCH written exams. Please go through with each section and if you need any additional information than let me know. Any kind of criticism and suggestion is highly appreciated.

1) Preparation of MRCPCH (Written Part)

  A) GENERAL PREPARATION FOR MRCPCH

                            (True for any Exam)

1) Confidence: is very important. Exam is tough and there is no short-cut for it. Many students will loose confidence either because they don't make proper plan or waste time in reading unnecessary things. 

2) One or two good partners: Many will distract/depress you and if you study alone, you might loose confidence.

3) Take proper diet, sleep and exercise: Take healthy diet with vitamin supplements specially in  vegetarians (Vit B 12) 

Avoid excess of tea/coffee/alcohol/smoking.  

Proper sleep of six hours is essential. If you don't than next day you may not concentrate.

Do light exercise specially of eyes,neck and back to keep you fit. For relaxation of eyes, you can look towards stars in the sky in night for few minutes. Do not continuously  sit on the chair for long time.Take break every 30-40 minutes of study session and do some movement in neck and back.

4) Meditation: You must do some kind of meditation to keep the brain calm. I used to do meditation before each study session.

 a. Sound of Humming Bee This is one of the best and quick method to increase concentration. Do it,at least for two minutes before study session.see video

 b. Count numbers in reverse from 100 to 1 with eyes close.

    

 c. Silva technique of relaxation Free course for beginners is available in their site. It is 30 minutes audio and may not be useful for the exam but a great technique to relax whole body.Click here

B)SPECIFIC PREPARATION FOR MRCPCH

1 Time required: At least 3-6 months require for preparation. May be less if you are academically sound. Everyday 3-4 hours study is sufficient. Enroll early for exam so that you can start study early.

3. Attachment: Working in pediatric emergency department is beneficial because many questions in the exam are directly or indirectly related to emergency department. Try to read and apply UK guidelines for management of patients.

6. Timetable (Rota): A MUST. Make a timetable in such a way that you have sufficient in the end for the revision. Try to stick to the timetable.

7. Electronic Devices: I used ipad for better revision. Any tablet can be used for this purpose. Do online questions on ipad/tablet. If you get a wrong answer than a screenshot and that image will be stored in the photos and from there you can revise them in a speedy manner. Read those MCQs at frequent intervals. Delete the questions if you feel that now you will remember the concept up to the exam. You can make different albums also. Take pictures of important guidelines and charts and try to read those at regular intervals. 

I also used ipod to record the important/difficult texts and arrange in a different folders and listen to those audio whenever I am free, usually at the time of morning walk. This help me immensely because this will surely reduce your revision time.
